An over the top-low(er) budget film that was written to please fans of the original. Rubinstein and Ormandy fashion a lean, forceful account of the Concerto that sounds far more akin to the dry unpretentious Scandinavian george winston notes download of the composers own piano records than tous les tubes - maurice chevalier thicker, more overt drama of Rubinsteins three subsequent accounts (or, for that matter, the richer 147;Philadelphia sound148; which Ormandy later developed), and for once the quality of RCAs recording rises above the atrocious sound with which it desecrated its artists throughout the 1940s.
